Welcome to The Education Conservancy!
Welcome to The Education Conservancy! Established in March, 2004, The Education Conservancy (EC) is a non-profit organization committed to improving college admission processes for students, colleges and high schools. By harnessing the research, ideas, leadership and imagination of thoughtful educators, EC delivers appropriate advice, advocacy and services. In a short period of time EC has established its presence and enlisted significant interest and support nationwide.

Recent developments include:
  • EC received a $350,000 challenge grant from the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation for general operating support and to leverage participation in the Beyond Ranking project.
  • 31 colleges contributed $150,000 to help build a prototype (CollegeSpeak) of a student-centered Website envisioned during the 2007 Beyond Ranking meeting at Yale University.
  • EC established a partnership with the College Board to enhance CB's college planning site according to the ideas and concepts contained in the CollegeSpeak prototype.
  • EC received a $350,000 grant from Lumina Foundation to support a joint project with Consumers Union to identify more useful types of information for evaluating colleges.
  • EC received a $35,000 grant from the Spencer Foundation to host an initial meeting of a campaign we are calling "In the Public Interest: Imagining an Exemplary Admission System," at NYU's Steinhardt Institute on January 15, 2010.
  • With the help of mentor and friend, Howard Gardner, I was able to meet last week with the president of a major philanthropic foundation to discuss the prospect of support for a project that would attempt to address the perceived antitrust barrier to collaboration among colleges.
  • DAN RATHER REPORTS: THE COLLEGE ADMISSION GAME An informative and inspiring program featuring students, counselors, deans, college presidents and the EC Director. A link to the program, available on iTunes, (episode #319) can be found here
